A trip to Bachkovo Monastery

Bachkovski Monastery is situated only at a few km away from Pamporovo Resort. It was founded in 1083 and it is the second largest in Bulgaria. The unique architectural and art monuments conserved there are of world cultural and religious value. The miracle-working icon of Virgin Mary dated 1310 as well as the largest mural painting in Bulgaria- Icon Brought in Procession, are conserved there. The monastery has a museum of exceptional works of art, and the monastery library preserves many valuable manuscripts and rare old-printed books. The monastery has been declared a monument of culture.
