A visit to Planetarium Smolyan
On September 6th 1975, the biggest Planetarium with public observatory in Bulgaria opened its doors in the town of Smolyan. Smolyan is a tourist centre in the West Rhodopes, situated at altitude 1000 m above sea level, near the famous Bulgarian winter resort of Pamporovo. The Planetarium is one of the most frequently visited places of interest in the mountain town. Tt has been visited by over 2 million people for the past 30 years. In order to popularize astronomical knowledge the Planetarium offers more than 70 lecture shows in the Star Hall. They include: tale shows for the little children, a lot of educational, general and topic-related shows for the general public. The foreign visitors of the Planetarium are offered shows in various foreign languages: Russian, French, German, English, Greek, Turkish. A series of special programmes – musical and poetic, add to the variety of star shows.
